Fashion still happens even if our attention is elsewhere

It was only later that I realized Queen Máxima had been in Arnhem to open the State of Fashion Biennale. Watching the news images felt strange, yet it was symbolic to discover the event only after it had taken place. It served as a reminder that cultural life continues to move quietly around us, even when we’re not paying attention.

Just the day before, I had revisited an older publication, a reflection I wrote about fashion within the Eusebiuskerk church, the same space connected to the opening moments of the biennale. This coincidence made me think about how fashion in Arnhem often manifests not as a spectacle, but rather as an atmosphere, a memory, and a cultural presence.

Perhaps some moments only become visible after they have already passed.
